Tura, Jan 29: Chairman of GHADC Rakesh A. Sangma has resigned from his post to contest the CEM election scheduled for Monday.
Rakesh A Sangma has been fielded by the ruling NPP alliance after CEM Benedic Marak was defeated in a No Confidence Motion moved by the NPP on Saturday on the floor of the house.
Surprisingly, the defeated CEM Benedic Marak has also filed nomination to contest the CEM election on Monday. He is backed by the opposition Trinamool Congress and two BJP MDCs.
Benedic Marak lost the no confidence motion by 15-13 votes after the ruling NPP alliance sought his ouster over alleged misuse of central funds and for moving to the opposition Trinamool camp to seek their support after he lost the confidence of his own party colleagues.
