Tura, Feb 20: To end the ongoing deadlock between the pressure groups opposed to GHADC CEM Rakesh A. Sangma, the state government has deputed its adviser and North Tura MLA Thomas A. Sangma to meet with the leaders of the protesting groups on Monday evening at the conference hall of Tura Circuit house.

In an official letter issued through the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh on Sunday, an invite has been given to the leaders of eight organisations which have been holding protests for the past one week, crippling GHADC office functioning.

The invite has been given to president of Association of Democracy and Empowerment Dalseng Bera Ch Momin, president of Garo Students’ Union (CEC) Tengsak G Momin, president of FKJGP Garo Hills zone Pritam Marak, AYWO president Sengbat Ch Marak, AHAM president George Prince Ch Momin, FAF president Brinbal M Sangma, NESO assistant secretary Manseng A Sangma and NAS president of Williamnagar Tengrak R Marak.

According to the letter, the meeting will take place at 5 PM in which the government adviser Thomas A Sangma and other MLAs will be participating in discussions with the protesting organisations.

Salary disbursement takes place

Despite the ongoing crisis, salary disbursement of three pending months has begun for hundreds of council employees since last week.

Shortly after his victory in the election for the post of CEM, new CEM Rakesh A Sangma rushed to Shillong to meet with Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and finance department officials to seek release of council revenue generated from the royalty share of minor minerals. The government, last week, released money to the tune of around Rs 20 crore to clear the pending salaries.
