Tura, Feb. 15: Member of the district council (MDC) from Jengjal constituency near Tura faced the anger of protestors who gheraoed him after spotting him outside the council area during the office picketing on Tuesday.

The incident happened while the MDC, Grahambell A Sangma, was coming out from the residence of the Deputy Chairman of GHADC located next to the GHADC office.

Angry protestors gathered and shouted at him for coming to the council area during their picketing of the office. They questioned him for coming inside the council area and also shouted slurs before he was escorted out by leaders of the groups without any incident.

The MDC said he went to pay a courtesy call to the deputy chairman when a misunderstanding occurred in which the protesters thought he had come to attend office. He later told them he had come to only meet the deputy chairman to discuss the situation and try to find a solution.

A similar incident occurred with the Joint Secretary of the GHADC, Mr P R Marak, who also visited the Deputy Chairman in his residence. He was also surrounded by protesters and later escorted by police personnel and a magistrate.

According to reports, the Secretary of the GHADC Ricardo Simchi R Marak is said to have ordered all officers to attend office and some of them began coming to attend, which was spotted by the protesting members who were on duty outside the council premises. This angered them further and led to high tension during the day which ultimately led to the gherao of the Jengjal MDC and another council officer.
