Tura, Feb 11: In a significant development involving the ongoing protests by groups opposed to the election of New CEM Rakesh A Sangma, the employees of the GHADC under the Non-Gazetted Employees Association have given an official statement in writing to the council secretary announcing that they are not taking part in the current situation.
The clarification was given by the NGEA Secretary in a letter to the GHADC Secretary of the Executive Committee today after the association leaders met with the council officials to clarify Thursday’s controversy involving the participation of some employees in a protest rally nearby that was called by GSU and other groups at Captain William park.
The district administration has taken a serious view of Thursday’s incident in which some members representing protest groups are accused of entering the council premises and asking employees to attend their meeting and is contemplating legal action since prohibitory orders were also there banning gatherings after Section 144 was imposed.
“GHADC employees (NGEA) have no part in the ongoing agitation against the CEM and we cannot take part because being employees of the council we are well aware that we cannot be revolting against our own authority. We are giving this statement to clarify our stand,” stated the NGEA Secretary in the statement given to the council secretary.
NPP Youth wing extends support to CEM
The National People’s Youth Front from Babelapara MDC constituency has voiced their support for CEM Rakesh A Sangma and accused the agitating groups of pitting one garo against another with false claims of Rakesh A Sangma not being a tribal.
“Just as these groups claim support, we would also like to inform that 15 MDCs elected by thousands of people in their respective constituencies are backing Rakesh A Sangma. Can the support of these thousand of voters be silenced who elected their leaders be silenced?” asked the NPYF.
