World leaders have congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his and his party’s third consecutive victory in the Lok Sabha elections. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), secured a decisive win, prompting messages of congratulations from leaders across the globe.

Neighbouring Countries Applaud

Prime Ministers from neighboring countries, including Nepal, Mauritius, and Bhutan, were among the first to extend their congratulations. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was one of the earliest foreign leaders to congratulate Modi. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, “The two leaders pledged to continue working together to further deepen the historic and close ties under the renewed mandate towards achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and Smart Bangladesh 2041.”

Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong praised Modi’s “historic” win, expressing his anticipation of deepening ties between their countries. “I look forward to deepening ties between the two countries,” Wong wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The Prime Ministers of Bhutan, Nepal, and Mauritius, along with the President of the Maldives, also extended their best wishes to Modi. Nepal Prime Minister ‘Prachanda’ highlighted the successful completion of the world’s largest democratic exercise. “Congratulations to PM @narendramodi on the electoral success of BJP and NDA in the Lok Sabha elections for the third consecutive term,” he said in a post on X.

European Leaders Offer Congratulations

Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides emphasized the strategic partnership between India and Cyprus. “Committed to continue working with you to further reinforce the Cyprus-India strategic partnership,” Christodoulides posted on X.

French President Emmanuel Macron celebrated India’s democratic process and expressed a desire to strengthen the Indo-French strategic partnership. “Together we will continue strengthening the strategic partnership that unites India and France,” Macron posted on X.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also extended her congratulations, highlighting the importance of the democratic processes in both the EU and India. “I look forward to a continued fruitful partnership between the EU and India,” she said.

Middle Eastern Leaders Express Well-Wishes

Leaders from the UAE and Israel also conveyed their congratulations, emphasizing the strong bilateral relations and future cooperation. President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, stated, “I extend my sincere congratulations to my friend PM Narendra Modi on his re-election as Prime Minister and wish him success in leading India to further progress and growth.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu looked forward to new heights in India-Israel relations. “May the friendship between India and Israel continue to surge towards new heights. Badhaai Ho!” Netanyahu tweeted.

Western Nations Celebrate

US President Joe Biden stated, “The friendship between our nations is only growing as we unlock a shared future of unlimited potential.” German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed optimism about continuing successful cooperation between Germany and India. Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted the “particularly privileged strategic partnership” with India.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte also congratulated Modi, each expressing a desire to enhance cooperation in various fields. “Today I spoke to @narendramodi to congratulate him on his election victory. The UK and India share the closest of friendships, and together that friendship will continue to thrive,” Sunak wrote in a post on X.

East Asia and Indo-Pacific Leaders Extend Greetings

Republic of Korea’s President Yoon Suk Yeol congratulated Modi on the broad support he received, while Japanese top government spokesman Yoshimasa Hayashi emphasized India as an important partner for realizing a free and open Indo-Pacific. Taiwan President Lai Ching-te also congratulated Modi, looking forward to expanding the “fast-growing” ties between the two nations.

Broader International Responses

Husain Haqqani, a former Pakistani ambassador to the US, congratulated the people of India, highlighting their commitment to democracy. “Congratulations to the people of India for going through their 18th parliamentary elections since 1947,” he noted.

Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni congratulated Modi on his victory, looking forward to further strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Italy and India. “Certain that we will continue to work together to strengthen the friendship that unites Italy and India,” Meloni said.

The US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) and the US-India Business Council (USIBC) extended their heartfelt congratulations, emphasizing the successful completion of the Lok Sabha elections and the future potential of Indo-US relations. “The US-India Business Council (USIBC) congratulates all Indians on the successful completion of the Lok Sabha elections and congratulates Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the National Democratic Alliance on their expanded mandate,” Atul Keshap, the USIBC president and CEO, said in a statement.
