Gold smuggling racket busted; Gold biscuits worth Rs 1 cr recovered in Byrnihat, 2 arrested

Nongpoh, Nov 16: In yet another achievement for the Ri Bhoi District Police, the Byrnihat Police personnel managed to arrest two people and also seized illegal gold biscuits consignment worth more than Rs. 1 crore.

According to the information received, after receiving relevant information on the illegal supply of a gold consignment, police laid a trap at Byrnihat and at around 10 AM on Tuesday morning detected one Mahindra Scorpio AS 01 EJ 6407 and during search operation police managed to seized a consignment of 20 pieces of pure gold biscuits worth more than Rs. 1 crore.

It was also informed that police arrested the driver of the vehicle and occupant of the vehicle who were identified as Abdullah Hussaiñ and Sanborlang Khaïong, both hailing from Ladrymbai of Jaintia Hills; the consignment of illegal gold was enroute from Ladrymbai to Assam.

Police are investigating to nab more people involved in this illegal gold smuggling racket.
