Shillong, May 26: The Director of Higher & Technical Education, Ambrose Ch Marak, on Friday directed the College of Teachers Education (PGT), Shillong to increase the number of application forms and extend the last date for submission of same for admission in B.Ed course for the session 2023-24.

This came after a delegation of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) met the Director of the Higher & Technical Education requesting his intervention into the problems faced by the students, who are aspiring to enroll in the PGT college here.

Students had to stand in queue from midnight till the office opened in the morning to get the application forms yet the majority are still being deprived.

“Due to this problem, the Union was compelled to demand the College to increase the numbers of application forms from 500 to 1,000 and to also extend the last date for submission of the application forms,” KSU education secretary Pynkmenlang Sanmiet said in a statement.

“The Director has assured the delegation to direct the College authority to increase the numbers of application forms as well as extending the last date for submission of the same,” he said.

In a letter to the Principal of the PGT college, Marak said, “…the directorate was informed that only a limited number of application forms was issued to applicants for admission to B.Ed course for the session 2023-2024. This will deprive many aspiring applicants to get the application forms. In this connection you are requested to increase the number of application forms and to extend the last date for submission of application forms.”

Meanwhile, Sanmiet informed that the Union had also suggested the College to introduce an online mode of submission of application forms.

With regards to the CUET examination, he said that the Union has demanded the government to ensure students from the state should get to write the examination in the Centre within the state. According to him, this is because there are students who have to appear for the CUET in other states.
