Govt to engage with ADCs to suggest amendment to sixth schedule

SHILLONG, APR 25: The state government will soon convene a meeting with the three autonomous district councils (ADCs) before taking a final decision on the proposed amendment to the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.

Informing this on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge District Council Affairs Prestone Tynsong said, “Very soon, we are going to sit down again with them and then the final draft of the amendment will be sent to the Government of India through the Ministry of Home Affairs.”

Stating that the amendment is in the final stage, Tynsong said, “That is why I requested the CEM of KHADC to have a meeting amongst themselves meaning all the three district councils and to also give us some kind of recommendations which are the clauses as right now the village council we really have a problem and number two unrepresented tribes which that time they are deadly against it and even from the state government we are against it.”
