Shillong, Mar 7: The Minister in-charge of PHE Renikton Tongkhar on Monday announced that the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWSS) will be completed within the month of September of this year.
This announcement came after the meeting with the officials of PHE along with the contractors implementing the project on Monday.
Speaking to reporters, Tongkhar said the Government along with the contractors has come to a decision to speed up the work and to ensure that the work is completed on time.
“The contractors today have expressed and they are all determined to resume back work immediately… from the government side we will give the support to them,” said the Minister.
Tongkhar also urged the Dorbar Shnong and the locality headmen to support the contractors in completing this project. “We understand that there are problems sometime, the problem may arise as the village authority did not allow, the department did not allow the contractors to carry on their work. It’s the need of all people staying in Shillong city, and I hope that people will understand that they will cooperate and to allow the department and the contractors to execute their works,” further appealed Tongkhar.
He also said that the date of completion has not been fixed by the department or the Government but by the contractors. “They (contractors) have expressed that we can complete this work before September, so I am very happy that we have unanimously decided that we will complete this work by September of this year,” he said.
