Shillong, Dec 18: C&RD Minister and Mylliem Constituency MLA Hamletson Dohling on Saturday felicitated 129 meritorious students and 6 sportspersons who have brought laurels to the state and to the country.
The felicitation program titled ‘6th U Tirot Sing Syiem Academic Awards’ was organized by the National People’s Youth Front (NPYF) of Mylliem constituency to felicitate all meritorious students hailing from the constituency.
The felicitation program was organized at Umlyngka where local MLA Hamletson Dohling graced the program as the chief guest in the presence of Padma Shri awardee Prof. Dr. Badaplin War, Fr. Tobias Kharngapkynta, members of the NPYF, headmen and parents of meritorious students and others.
The students who were felicitated include two toppers who secured top 20 position in their examination, 81 students who exceled in their Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC), 48 students who exceled in their Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examination, and 6 sportspersons who had brought laurels to the constituency and the state as whole.
Speaking during the felicitation program, Dohling said even when he was a leader of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) he had always emphasized on felicitating those students who had come out with flying colors in their respective examinations in order to encourage them to work harder in order to become successful and serve the state better.
He said this ‘6th U Tirot Sing Syiem Academic Awards’ has always been his agenda to felicitate those who have come forward be it in sports or education as this will encourage them and others to continue to bring glory to Mylliem constituency, and the state in particular.
“I am confident that such awards and felicitation programs will encourage our students and our youths to work harder and push themselves to become IAS, IPS officers in the future in order to serve the people and the state overall,” he expressed.
Dohling also appealed to all parents to encourage their children to work hard be it in sports and other curriculum activities as this will provide overall growth of their children and he also encouraged those students who did not receive any awards to not lose hope and instead continue with their dream to become successful in life.
