Shillong, Jan 19: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) called upon Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday and submitted a letter seeking pension for frontline fighters cum volunteers of Hill State Movement on the occasion of celebration of Meghalaya’s Golden Jubilee to be held on the 21st January, 2022.
Speaking to reporters, HSPDP Chief K.P Pangiang said that the HSPDP are indeed immensely pleased to witness the celebration of the 50th year of Meghalaya’s statehood to be held on 21 January, 2022, which is a very proud historical event for the state.
“We perceive the MDA Government has taken many constructive initiatives to celebrate this occasion in a foremost manner as to pay rich tribute and commemorate our great leaders who ceaselessly struggled and sacrificed themselves in time, money and energy to get the state of Meghalaya from erstwhile Assam regime,” said Pangiang.
He further stated that, “On 10th November, 2021 during the celebration of the 53rd Foundation Day of the Hill State People’s Democratic Party it has facilitated and honoured around 243 ‘Hill state volunteers’ who endured hunger and sleeplessness for the cause of a full-fledged state of Meghalaya… volunteers who have been jailed at that point of time for more than 60 days… or they have been in jail fora period of six months,” added Pangiang.
At the same time, the HSPDP Chief urged the government to recognize the pioneering work of Late Hopingstone Lyngdoh in the Hill state movement.
“We urge the government to erect a special monument in memory of our late leader, suggesting to name a government college or university in memory of the service of Bah Hoping somewhere in West Khasi Hills or South West Khasi Hills,” futher added Pangiang.
