Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to State is expected to be quite a lively affair as various groups gear-up to make their voice heard for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya.
The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) on Tuesday made its intentions clear to send the message of ‘No ILP, No Rest’ to Shah.
“We will not stop until and unless he (Shah) grants us ILP. The agitation and the people’s movement in the state of Meghalaya will end only when he grant us ILP, that is our stand,” HYC president Robertjune Kharjahrin told reporters on Tuesday. Kharjahrin also referred to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly resolution passed in 2019 for implementation of ILP in the State.
Shah is scheduled for a two-day visit of the state on July 24-25.
Want long discussion with Shah
Kharjahrin said that the organization has sought appointment to meet Shah but they should be given ample time to discuss the issue of ILP. He said a window of 10-15 minutes won’t be enough to discuss the long pending issue.
“We are mentally prepared to have a lengthy discussion with him. Therefore, I would request him to give us ample time since the issue cannot be discuss in just 10-15 minutes,” he said.
Expressing hope that Shah would respect the sentiment of the people, Kharjahrin also requested everybody to stand united on the issue to ensure ILP is given to Meghalaya.
Kharjahrin also maintained that it is a moral obligation on the part of the organization to seek appointment before meeting anybody, adding “we seek appointment not begging him (Shah) to meet us”.
