SHILLONG, JULY 15: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Mawlai Circle on Thursday conducted its Sier Lapalang operation (SLO) and push back as many as 16 migrant labourers from Mawlai Umshing Mawkynroh.

HYC – MC general secretary B Lyngdoh Mawnai said the decision was taken after local youth have been deprived of their rights to get employment within their own localities due to the coming of such migrant labourers. This has forced them to search for employment in the different parts of Shillong.

“We have decided to push back these migrant labourers in order to pave way for our own people, who are construction workers, to get employment,” he said.

The HYC also urged the contractors to employ local youth as the organization has decided to intensify the operation in Mawlai area.
