Shillong, Jan 21: The members of the Hynñiewtrep Youth National Movement (HYNM) on Friday staged a ‘protest march’ in the city as the State celebrated its 50th year of statehood.

The purpose of the protest march was to express concern over the delay in implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and unlawful activities in the state.

The HYNM marched from Polo towards Malki ground to show support to the lone MLA Adelbert Nongrum who boycotted the Meghalaya’s 50th Statehood celebrations in an attempt to push his four demands other than the extension of the upper age limit for entering government jobs.

Notably, the lone KHNAM legislator had recently launched his strike at Malki ground in support of the demands for relaxation of the upper age limit for recruitment to government services from 32 to 37 years, creation of a separate state cadre, relocation of Harijan Colony and resolving the long-pending boundary dispute with Assam.
