Shillong, April 20: The police investigation into the fraudulent activities of the imposter who created fake social media accounts in the name of PHE Minister Marcuise Marak has revealed that the same individuals had previously posed as former Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh.
Mentionably, miscreants had created two fake social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram under his name. The imposter was using his identity to demand money and personal information from various people. Marak was traveling when the incident took place.
Marak’s son, Tengrik M Sangma, immediately filed a formal complaint with the Sadar Police Station at Police Bazar in Shillong, which led to investigations into the matter. The police discovered that the same individuals who had previously posed as former Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh were responsible for the scam.
“I learnt from the police that these are the same guys who had duped the people pretending to be the former Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh. The imposter (s) had given to some people different accounts, some was from Gurgaon, Assam and even from Leh Ladakh,” said Marak.
Police are trying to track them down, but most of their IP address are giving different locations.
He also mentioned that some of them believed that it was the minister and even agreed to transfer the money via GPay but fortunately the transfer was unsuccessful.
Interestingly, the culprits used different accounts with locations ranging from Gurgaon, Assam, and even Leh Ladakh, which made it difficult for the police to track them down. However, some individuals were able to see through the deception, preventing any monetary loss.
“They should be booked and get arrested. Trial should be there because police say accused are doing these things to many people,” the Minister said.
