Shillong, Nov 1: Indian International Master Sagar Shah believes that Meghalaya can produce a Grandmaster in chess within the next decade given the talent of the people here.
International Master Sagar Shah and his team from ChessBase India were in Shillong for a 3-day camp on chess for students and trainers at Hotel Courtyard by Marriott from October 29 to November 1, 2024.
The event was organised by the Meghalaya Chess Association. The training camp was co-organized with the State Council of Science, Technology & Environment, and covered various aspects of chess strategy and tactics.
Over 150 participants, including over 100 coaches from across Meghalaya, took part in the camp, which aimed to promote chess and develop young talent in the state.
Speaking at the Inauguration of the camp, Shah said, “I am impressed by the enthusiasm and talent of Meghalaya’s young chess players. With proper training and support, I am confident that Meghalaya will see its first Grandmaster in the next 10 years.”
Meghalaya Chess Association officials thanked Sagar Shah and his team for sharing their expertise and inspiring the next generation of chess players in Meghalaya. “This camp is a significant step towards promoting chess in Meghalaya and developing our young talent. We are grateful to Sagar Shah and ChessBase India for their support,” said a Meghalaya Chess Association official.
