Jengjal accident- father and school kids seriously injured

Must read

TURA, May 5: A father driving back his young son and daughter from school in Jengjal collided head on with the Ria bus coming to Tura destroying the motorcycle and seriously injuring all three of them, leaving them dead unconscious on Friday afternoon at 3 PM.

The accident took place at Rongdenggre after a dangerous turn on the road which has for long blocked the visibility of the road due to a large bamboo plantation that has not been cleared by PWD despite the danger trap.

The father Solben T Sangma, aged 47 years, was bringing back his 7 year old son and 10 year old daughter from Morning Star School in Jengjal to their village of Songitalgre when the accident happened at Rongdenggre.

He reportedly failed to notice the incoming Ria bus (ML08 H 8111) returning from Goalpara to Tura and his bike went straight into the front of the bus with full impact throwing him onto the road and leaving him unconscious.

The critically injured father and son has been rushed to Tura civil hospital while the daughter is being treated at Jengjal sub divisional hospital.

The bus has been seized and the driver detained at Jengjal police station.

Public from the area blame the PWD officials who have failed to clear a portion of the bamboo plantation which has been blocking visibility of the road for a long time.

The stretch of the highway from Rongram- Jengjal-Anogre-Rari to Bajengdoba has a long history of road accidents as commuters, taking advantage of the broad road, tend to go on high speed which at times result in devastating consequences.

In view of the frequent accidents, former minister and ex MLA of the area, James Pangsang K Sangma, in consultation with medical experts from CMC Vellore who are running the Jengjal hospital, have been preparing a plan to set up a trauma centre that will deal specifically with road accidents.
