Jowai, Dec 17: The indefinite strike called by the Jaiñtia Hills Truck Owners Association (JHTOA), which began on December 6 at Takhniang, Tuber, East Jaiñtia, was called off on Thursday after the Cement Companies agreed to meet the demands of the association.
A meeting was held on Thursday at the Association’s office premises where the members of the JHTOA and truck owners were present. During the meeting, the Office Bearers of the JHTOA informed the points to which the companies have agreed to comply with which includes the payment of Rs. 7 per MT per KM as freight charges.Following the meeting, the President of JHTOA, Nidamon Chullet informed that the strike has been called off after the companies agreed to meet the association’s demands and that an agreement will also be signed on the same with the Jaiñtia Hills Cement Manufacturers Association (JHCMA) to ensure that the demands are binding.
He further thanked the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for taking up the matter seriously and ensuring that the Association’s demands for the interest of the local truck owners are met with. He also thanked the former Transport Minister, Sniawbhalang Dhar, for bringing about the notification on the new freight charges.
Chullet also said that this is the best Christmas and New Year Gift that the truck owners ever got.
