Jowai, Jan 30: Due to regular complaints from the locals the Jaiñtia Students’ Union (JSU) has closed down the stone quarry at Mynkre, East Jaiñtia Hills.
The JSU on Saturday made a suprise inspection and found that the stone quarry, which belongs to the G.R. Infra Project and headed by NHAI, was emitting excessive amount of smoke which is harmful to the area of Mynkre and the people living around it. Therefore, the JSU has closed down the stone quarry, for now.
JSU President Livingson Sama said the stone quarry will be closed down as of now until they have fixed the air filter and the chimney so that the level of emissions can be kept in check.
