Shillong, May 11: A show-cause will be issued to Paul Leong, owner of one building in Themïewmawlong Ïewduh, informed Rangkynsai Kharbuki, the executive member (EM) in-charge of Trade and Water Resources of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC). The decision to send show cause notice comes after Leong had on one occasion threatened to move the High Court against the district council for its drive against shops which operate without trading license.

Speaking to media persons after conducting checking on traders with trading license in and around Ïewduh on Thursday, Kharbuki informed that Leong had recently forwarded a court order to the KHADC, indicating that he has the liberty and the right to rent his shops out to anyone.

Kharbuli claimed that as per the court order, which was forwarded by Leong to the KHADC, Paul Leong has the liberty to rent his shops to anyone “but it should be according to the rules and regulations of the district council especially when it comes to trade, commerce and possession of trading license while conducting business in areas which falls under the jurisdiction of the KHADC.”

Kharbuli said that Leong or anyone who conduct business by engaging non-locals in area under the jurisdiction of KHADC must follow the norms of the district council which clearly states that all must possess trading license and all required documents.

Earlier, the executive members (EM) of the district council led by Teibor Pathaw, Jambor War, Grace Mary Kharpuri along with the Syiem of Hima Mylliem, Ainam Manik Syiem, conducted an inspection in and around Iewduh and held discussion with farmers and traders to explain on the decision to bar all forms of deduction on all agriculture produces.

EM Rangkynsai Kharbuki informed that anyone found violating the prohibition on deduction of weight on agricultural produce shall be punished with stern action by the district council.
