Meghalaya Police have arrested four overground workers of Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) following the IED blast by the outfit at the Police Reserve in East Jaintia Hills district.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, Assistant Inspector General of Police (A), Gabriel K. Iangrai said, “According to the statement of the accused persons, all of them boarded a vehicle and thereafter, went to Police Reserve to place the IED. On the intervening night of July 13 and 14, they then triggered the explosion which resulted in minor damage of a police building and injuring 1 police personnel.”
In another major breakthrough, he said the investigation of the case led to the arrest of two activists of HNLC who were involved in the unfurling of HNLC flag in the year 2019 and in attempting to cause an IED explosion at a Coke factory in Khliehriat.
“The investigation of the case is still in progress and the investigation team is on,” Iangrai said while adding that a look out for other activists of the proscribed organisation who are involved in the case.
