SHILLONG, JUNE 6: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has sought the intervention of the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) into the alleged human rights violation and excessive use of power by the Border Security Force (BSF) in the state.

In a letter of complaint submitted to the chairperson of the MHRC, KHNAM working president Thomas Passah said, “We therefore, would request the Commission to intervene in such Human Rights Violation and the excessive use of power by the BSF.”

Passah said that time and again it has been reported that the BSF harms the innocent civilians of Meghalaya, more than protecting the international border with Bangladesh.

The incident happened at Mawshun locality near Pomshutia village, about 17 km away from the lndo-Bangladesh border where the 4 Battalion is posted at Pyrdiwah.

He also informed that an Officer of the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary officer of Muktapur veterinary dispensary, Govt of Meghalaya (Dr Seiboklang Buam) was physically assaulted by the BSF at Lakroh Shiv Mandir, Hawai Tilla, West Jaintia Hills. He was stopped by two BSF troopers while on his way to fish, and when he began recording the incident with his mobile phone, the BSF personnel allegedly snatched it from him, asked him to strip, and threatened him with physical harm.
