Shillong, June 29: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Thursday asked the Shillong-based Longkmie Gas Agency to provide a minimum of 12 LPG cylinders to consumers annually and to ensure there is no illegal transaction of LPG cylinders.
In a letter to the manager of the gas agency, KSU’s Laban Circle president, Reuben Najiar, said the union expresses its resentment over the inadequate LPG cylinders distribution in and around the Laban area which has caused great inconvenience to the public at large.
He said it has also come to the notice of the Union that the gas agency distributes only ten LPG cylinders annually.
However, LPG cylinders to be distributed in each and every household annually must be 12 as a minimum criterion or more if there is ample supply but nothing less than 12 LPG cylinders annually.
Also referring to the inspection conducted by the union on May 13 to the various food stalls and restaurants in the Laban area, Najiar said that it was found that many of these food outlets were using domestic LPG cylinders instead of commercial LPG cylinders.
“Thus, the Union would humbly like to urge that the agency must be able to provide a minimum of 12 (twelve) LPG cylinders annually and also see to it that there is no illegal transaction of LPG cylinders,” Najiar further demanded.
