Shillong April 4: With the rainy season back to the hills, the devastating landslides have also returned to haunt the commuters and residents along the Shillong-Dawki road or NH 40 road. On Monday, a section of the national highway was completely washed away by the sudden and heavy pre-monsoon shower just above Siatbakon Village.

In the incident, one Maruti Alto was stuck in a landslide. According to sources, the driver was evacuated from the vehicle before any mishap could happen.

Any vehicle going to Dawki side have been advised to take Pongtung-Lyngkhat road. Venture/travelling during the night may be avoided except for extreme emergency.

In the city on Monday, a section of road near Skul Synjuk at Wahingdoh along the River Umkhrah collapsed due to heavy rains.
