Shillong, Nov 22: Shortly after the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) installed banners on Thursday, aiming to commemorate the Mukroh firing incident that occurred a year ago, law enforcement authorities took swift action to remove them from the vicinity of the main Secretariat Building, Shillong.
In a video captured by people from inside the Secretariat building, a female police officer was seen taking down the banners put up by the KSU near the Secretariat building.
The banners put up by the KSU were intended to serve as a reminder of the tragic event that transpired a year ago, stirring public memory regarding the Mukroh firing incident.
Earlier this month, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma informed that process has to be followed for implementing the decision taken by Assam and Meghalaya to handover investigation into the Mukroh firing incident.
In the Mukroh firing incident on Nov 22, 2022, six people were killed and two were severely injured in police firing in West Jaintia Hills district, Meghalaya. Five from Meghalaya and one Assam Forest Guard were killed in the incident.
It must be noted that last year, Assam and Meghalaya signed a border pact to resolve the dispute in six areas of difference.
