Shillong, April 21: Life-size statues of the three prominent freedom fighters of Meghalaya – U Tirot Sing Syiem, Pa Togan Sangma and U Kiang Nangbah – will be erected by the Meghalaya Government under the aegis of the Arts and Culture Department at the premises of State Central Library (U Soso Tham Auditorium) in Shillong.

Minister incharge of Arts and Culture Sanbor Shullai informed that the initiative was taken after suggestions came in from various NGOs, Student Unions and the general public.

Shullai said that the project will be handed to Raphael Warjri, the Chief Creative Director of Riti Arts Academy.

“A joint inspection has been made today (Thursday) since the department has received the first installment to initiate the project and a tender will be floated immediately so the project can start as soon as possible,” said Shullai.

He further informed that a total amount of Rs. 30 lakh has been sanctioned for the first phase and a three months period has been given to complete the project.

He hoped that the three life-size statues of the State’s freedom fighters would be inaugurated on August 15, 2022, which is also the 75th Year of Independence of India.
