Shillong, April 20: The health department officials on Tuesday said that Covid cases are increasing at a rapid speed in the State and the current situation was alarming.

Addressing the media this evening, Director of Health Services Dr. Aman War said that compared to last year, the spike of Covid cases this year has been very rapid.

“In a span of 25 days, i.e from March 23rd 2021 till April 17, 2021, the Covid cases registered in the State is above 665 cases, while last year over a span of 114 days, the cases were around 600. The situation in alarming as cases are increasing very rapidly,” said Dr. War.

On Tuesday, 134 positive cases were reported in the State.

“Situation is alarming and we have to take all necessary precautions as we did last year to arrest the number of cases and to contain this particular pandemic,” he added.

In view of the situation, the Department of Health Services on Tuesday organised a Covid Awareness programme, which was streamed online.
