Load shedding to continue in Meghalaya, shortfall of 110 MW

Must read

SHILLONG, JUNE 27: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday reviewed the power scenario in the state.

Sangma told reporters that the state has to impose load shedding due to acute shortage of power after five units, of which three are national companies including OTPC and Kopli and two are from state owned Leshka and Umtru power projects were not functioning properly.

The state is running short of about 110 megawatts (MW) due to non-functioning of the three units of the national companies, he said.

“We have roughly about 42 MW from Leshka and about 21 MW from Umtru which are being disturbed because of periodic maintenance and some of the units are not functioning, which of course repairing is on, and we are trying to get things done quickly,” he added.

Informing that he has reviewed the current situation, Sangma said that the government is working towards rescheduling and trying to find out how to minimize the inconveniences caused to the people as there are some areas where load shedding is for 3  hours.

“In about a week to two weeks’ time we expect some units to start working again and if that happens we expect a large relief to take place but I don’t want to jump the gun but we expect that to happen soon,” he said.

The chief minister further urged the people to bear with the government, which is trying its level best to minimize the inconveniences caused to the citizens of the state.
