Tura, Mar 2: Police in South Garo Hills has rescued a man held captive inside a room for more than eight years by his relatives and mahari because of his mental state of mind.
“Upon receiving information on Social Media on viral video being circulated regarding a man being wrongly confined in an isolated place in a village called Panchimgre, under Gasuapara Police Station for more than 8 (eight) years. On enquiry it is known that a person named Shri Grenal B. Marak (32 yrs approx), S/o Henison M. Sangma was held captive by his own relatives and Maharies for his mental illness has been rescued yesterday the 28/02/2022, by the Police Team of Dimapara ICP, South Garo Hills. The person has been forwarded for medical treatment to Psychiatric Ward, Baghmara Civil Hospital for further treatment and management. The person is mentally unsound and violent and thereby slowing the rescue work. Legal action is being initiated against all those responsible persons and case is being initiated at Gasuapara Police Station” a police statement mentioned.
