Imphal, Nov 8: Moreh Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) recovered a huge quantity of explosives and warlike stores while carrying out domination in Manipur’s Moreh along Indo-Myanmar border on November 7.According to sources, an area domination patrol along the IMB was carried out whereby the alert troops of Assam Rifles detected well-concealed boxes hidden inside thick foliage.
A police official said that at least four youth in two foreign-made bikes tried to enter India through the Moreh border from Myanmar’s Namphalong areas but after seeing the security personnel they threw the bags containing the 230 IEDs and other explosives materials and fled to the other side of the border.
The recovered IEDs weigh approx 250 Kg. The recovered explosives were handed over to Moreh Police Station for further necessary legal action.
Police suspect that these explosive materials and the IEDs are likely to be used in the upcoming Manipur Assembly elections.
It may be mentioned that smuggling of drugs, arms and ammunition, and explosives are rampant from Myanmar as Manipur shares around 400 km of unfenced border with the neighbouring country.
