However, no senior central leaders were present in the state and BJP party sources inform that central leaders are currently tied up with election campaign in UP, Punjab and Goa.
Campaign to retain Manipur by the BJP is also taking off today itself with the chief minister launching his poll campaign from Khurai constituency.
Meanwhile, shortly after filing his nomination papers, the Chief minister attacked the main opposition Congress terming the Congress Manifesto as nothing more than a propaganda.
The Congress in Manipur is fighting to return to power in the state and, on Friday, released its manifesto in Imphal promising to create 50,000 jobs each year and one-third reservation for women in all government jobs.
The opposition party has also promised the immediate repeal of AFSPA and a separate Manipur regiment if voted to power in the state.
“Manifesto should be practical but their (Congress)manifesto is only propaganda, whereas our BJP manifesto will be practical that can be implemented easily. They are just bluffing” said chief minister Biren Singh.
The footballer turned journalist and now political head of the state exuded confidence of an absolute victory for the BJP in the Manipur elections.
But the party has faced dissent during the distribution of tickets for candidates.
Last week, after the BJP named its candidates for all 60 seats flin Manipur, protests broke out by supporters of candidates who didn’t make it to the list.
Several party leaders, including three sitting BJP MLAs, who were denied tickets switched over to other parties forcing the chief minister to burn the midnight oil in trying to solve the crisis triggered by the dissidents.
