Imphal, Feb 4: The Manipur Pradesh Congress committee (MPCC) on Friday released its manifesto for upcoming Manipur Assembly polls. The MPCC have done 30 key promises in their manifesto.
In their party manifesto, they stated that it would work towards the repeal of Armed Forces (Special Power) Act, 1958 (AFSPA) from the state.
The Manipur government has extended the “disturbed area” status of the state for a period of one year with retrospective effect from December 1, 2021 . But Imphal Municipal Area is not part of it.
Among the 30 major key promises are- Urging the government of India to Repeal AFSPA, State Food and Essential Commofities Corporation, Municipal Cultural Diversity Policy, Free Critical Medical treatment for Children, Creation of Manipur Regiment and Creation of Manipur trade centre.
Like NPP, Congress manifesto also promises for the repealing of AFSPA. For both the parties AFSPA has become one of the major key promise.
After the killing of innocent workers in Mon district of Nagaland by Army, a section of people stood against the controversial AFSPA and demand for the compete repeal of AFSPA from Nagaland and Manipur, which has been infested by insurgency.
Both Congress and NPP have used the voice of the people in their party manifesto which was released recently for the upcoming polls in Manipur.
The repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 (Afspa), is an election issue in Manipur. The state is going to two-phase polls on February 27 and March 3.
