Manipur Govt offers Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia for class 12 student killed by unidentified miscreants

Imphal, March 28: The Manipur government has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh for the next of kin of a Class 12 student who was shot dead by unidentified miscreants.

The decision was taken after a meeting between Chief Minister, Biren Singh and members of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) that was formed in connection with the killing.

In a Facebook post, Biren Singh wrote “the state government will provide an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh and conduct necessary inquiries into the case.The government will also consider to provide a job to the eligible next of the kin”.

The victim, a 17-year-old named Seigunlal Misao, was shot dead near his residence in Motbung model village, Kangpokpi district on Saturday around 8:30 pm.

Mentionably, a bandh was enforced by JAC along National Highway-39 on Sunday morning, disrupting traffic for a few hours but after assurance from government the bandh was withdrawn.
