Imphal, Feb 18: Even as the campaigning for the 1st phase of polls in Manipur has intensified , the BJP is now drawing flakes from its key ally in the  Northeast. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma led National People’s Party (NPP) is not only contesting against ally BJP but now Sangma, who is also the National President of the Party on Friday, during his second leg of campaign in Manipur, accused coalition partner BJP of not keeping promises and not maintaining coalition ‘Dharma’.“The sad part is that in past five years in many fronts we had to face huge challenges in the coalition and, therefore, we were not able to fulfill many commitments we made to the people,” Sangma said while campaigning in the prestigious Kesamthong constituency in imphal for Party MLA L. Jayantakumar Singh.

The fire-brand leader Conrad Sangma who is otherwise seen as the closest ally of the BJP, decided not only that his party would contest in Manipur solo but pit up a fight against BJP as well as Congress. In 2017, NPP Contested 9, won 4 and was the kingmaker.

“In the middle of the coalition, our MLAs had enough of the trouble and so they decided to come out of the coalition. It was only after I intervened and also some senior BJP leaders that our MLAs returned back,” Sangma added.NPP is contesting 38 of the total 60 seats. Sangma also advocated that Northeast should have one strong regional party and he feels Manipur polls would mark the beginning of that political process.
