Meghalaya CM to personally look into the war of words between Principal Secy and DHS(MI)

Shillong, June 10: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday said that he would personally look into the issue which has recently put the health department in the limelight.

“I will also personally look into this matter and make sure we figure out how to move forward…,” Sangma told reporters while responding to a query on the allegations and counter allegations between the Principal Secretary of Health department Sampath Kumar and Director of Health Services (MI) over the May 27-incident at the old NIFT campus.

The incident was related to an alleged abuse against the two lady officers of the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS) – Project Director and the Deputy Director – by the Registrar of the Indian Institute of Public Health (IIPH) over the allotment of rooms at the old NIFT campus at the Pasteur Hills, Lawmali.

The land is under the Director of Health Services, who is in charge of all medical institutions.

Kumar in a statement had maintained that the government will seek explanation from the DHS (MI) on the incident.

Dr War while replying to the show cause notice issued by the Commissioner & Secretary, however sought action by filing an FIR against the Indian Institute of Public Health (IIPH) for allegedly trespassing into the property of the DHS (MI) and the Principal Secretary of Health for violating the principle of natural justice as “he had gone to the media outlets in this regard without verifying the same with the DHS”.

Admitting that such incident is not a healthy trend, the chief minister said, “Let me not say only in the health department but in any organization in any kind of situation, it is not healthy, of course it is not healthy and it should not happen as when we work as a team we should always work as a team.”

“But keeping in mind the different dynamics and complications of situation, two individuals may have different views on certain points, they may both be intending to do the right thing but one may feel it should be done on the right side and one may feel it should be done on the left side and it is natural in any organization or in any department for this kind divergent views to be present because that is the healthy part of having the organization and people who understand the workings of the department and they really want to make things happen. So is it bad for the department, well it could be if it goes to a point where it affects the work of the department and the outcome then it is not good but if it leads to healthy discussion and leads to a better outcome and a better performance and a better decision making then that is good,” he said.
