Meghalaya coming up with backup mechanism to set up beds with oxygen to address the need of Covid patients: Dy CM

Shillong, May 12: While the bed capacity in Meghalaya hospital are almost occupied, the state government has decided to increase the capacity by coming up with a backup mechanism.

Deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong informed that a total of 300 beds will be arranged at IIM, out of this 100 beds will be provided with oxygen, another will be set-up at Umsawli with 100 capacity out of this 40 will be with Oxygen.

Tynsong added that as of today the bed capacity is more or less still manageable.

So far in the 21 hospitals in Meghalaya with COVID-19 wing, 416 beds have already been occupied. The total existing beds is 707 and the projected number of beds is 823.

Nazareth hospital in Shillong has a total of 70 active COVID-19 cases. The hospital has a total of 100 beds and 70 beds have been occupied.

Civil Hospital in Nongstoin and Dr Norman Tunnel Hospital in Jowai has zero active cases and zero occupied beds.

The state on Wednesday recorded 406 fresh COVID-19 cases and 8 deaths. A total of 314 recovered from COVID-19. The total active cases stands at 3,381 out of which 1,968 is in East Khasi Hills and 442 in Ri-Bhoi.
