Meghalaya govt begins process to appoint new DGP

Shillong, Dec 17: With the tenure of the incumbent Meghalaya DGP R Chandranathan getting over by the end of December 2021, the Meghalaya Government has started the process of selecting a new Director General.

Informing this here on Thursday, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma said, “It requires the lists and names and communication has to be made with the UPSC, so all that process has started and we hope that the process will be completed at the earliest.”

Meghalaya DGP R Chandranathan took charge of Meghalaya Police in 2018 and is expected to retire on December 31, 2021.

Sangma added that they will have to wait while the procedures are carried out and will decide on how to move forward.

Earlier, All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) leader Dr Mukul Sangma had urged the state govt not to deviate from the mandate of the law for appointing the new DGP in the state.
