Meghalaya Police and Bomb Squad safely defused two unexploded Second World War (WWII) bombs recovered from Mawlyndep, Ri Bhoi District on Wednesday.

As per reports, on construction of two houses in the area of Mawlyndep, the construction workers unearthed the two Second World War bombs. Subsequently, the workers informed the Village headman.

Village Headman Jinu Kharbuki said, after being informed by the villagers of the two bombs unearthed in his village, he immediately informed Umiam Police Station and the Bomb Squad swiftly rushed to the area. On close inspection, the Bomb Squad concluded that the two bombs are still active and need to be defused.

For safety protocols, the two active world war bombs were brought to 1st Battalion at Mawiong in Mawlai.

This is the second incident that World War bombs have been unearthed from Mawlyndep area.
