Guwahati, Feb 3: The Assam police have rescued a minor girl from Assam’s Silchar, who was trafficked and forced to prostitution.

According to reports, the minor girl was trafficked from Nepal’s Pokhara.

“The 16-year-old girl was rescued from a house in Silchar’s Meherpur area. After health checkups she was sent to Ujjawala Shelter Home in Silchar,” said a police official.

Meanwhile, the superintendent of police of Cachar district Numal Mahatta said that they acted after receiving information from official sources.

“Nepal’s police arrested a man for trafficking this girl recently and he revealed that she is in Silchar. Based on official information, we searched here and rescued her last night from a residential area,” Mahanta stated.

He said, “We are yet to arrest anyone in this case. We are investigating it and we will arrest those involved in this if we find adequate proof.”

It can be mentioned that a 62-year-old mentally challenged woman from Nepal has been waiting for deportation for the last two years but the state government authorities are saying that they can send her home only after receiving orders from the central government.
