Mukroh firing incident: Govt suspends OC of Zirikinding Police Station, Forest Range Officer

Shillong, Nov 22: Meghalaya government has suspended the officer in-charge (OC) of the Zirikinding Police Station and other officials under whom the Mukroh village falls for the firing incident in the village by Assam police on Tuesday.

After the emergent cabinet meeting on Tuesday evening, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “The OC of Zirikinding Police Station who was involved in the incident has been suspended, the Forest Range Protection Officer in charge of the area and who was a part of the incident has been suspended, the SP of West Karbi Anglong has been transferred. The Govt. of Assam will be taking necessary steps to investigate into the matter in consultation with the Government of Meghalaya.”

“The Assam Government has also assured that whatever demands Government of Meghalaya puts forward to Government of India, Government of Assam will cooperate to ensure justice is served and those who are guilty are punished,” the Chief Minister further informed.

In addition, as a sign of respect to those who lost their lives in the unfortunate incident, Sangma said all Government official programs will be suspended till the 30th of November 2022.

“To show solidarity with the people who have lost their lives and the families affected, all Festivals in any part of the Meghalaya will be cancelled,” he added.
