Mukul should not contest from 2 seats, people will not have faith in him: Prestone

Shillong, Feb 4: NPP national vice president and deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong on Saturday said it is not fair for the leader of opposition Dr. Mukul Sangma to contest from two seats in the upcoming elections.

According to Tynsong, the constitution does not allow an MLA to serve two-three constituencies.

Mukul, who is a sitting AITC legislator from Songsak, has also decided to contest from Tikrikilla.

“My personal opinion is he (Mukul) has done that last term. If he again continues to do the same thing, I am very sure (people of) both the constituencies will not have faith in him,” Tynsong told reporters.

“Because, see, if you can serve both the constituencies if the constitution allows to do than even me I can contest two-three also, but now if you contest both the constituencies and one constituency you have to leave, you have to resign, I think that is very unfair. So my principle and my opinion is that I am not at all agreeable or acceptable to contesting two or three or more constituencies at a time,” he added.

In the 2018 Assembly polls, Mukul had won from two seats – Ampati and Songsak. He later resigned from Ampati to pave way for his daughter Miani D Shira, who is now a sitting legislator of the said constituency.
