Kohima, Sept 28: The Nagaland police have started a massive crackdown against drug menace in the state and taken strict action against 43 police personnel for their involvement in drug related crimes.
According to reports, 23 of them were booked under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985.
Departmental enquiry had been completed against 23 police personnel, while the departmental probes were pending against another 20 personnel.
Other police personnel were either suspended or their annual increment in salaries withheld or both actions taken. Rank of few of the police personnel were also downgraded.
According to reports, one police personnel was sent to compulsory retirement and seven were dismissed from service for their involvement in drug related activities.
“Drugs valued around Rs 25 crore were seized. 133 FIRs registered and 157 persons arrested between June and August this year,” said a source.
