Shillong, Mar 9: Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Wednesday said the department has already sent a proposal to the government for sanctionining of a fire station at Mawngap.
“We are awaiting for sanction so that the temporary camp can be upgraded into a full-fleged fire station,” Rymbui said while replying to a query raised by UDP legislator from Mawphlang Eugeneson Lyngdoh in the Assembly.
When Lyngdoh wanted to know the status of the new camp building and the timeline for its completion, the home minister said Rs 1.79 crore have been sanctioned in 2017 and the work had started in 2018 and at present the construction is on and on the verge of completion.
He said the Mawngap Fire & Emergency Services temporary camp is functioning under the jurisdiction of Mawngap police station since October 27, 2000.
He said at present the Fire & Emergency Services camp is functioning with 1 fire tender equipped with 1 floating pump and few fire fighting equipments.
The current strength of Mawngap Fire & Emergency Services camp as on March 4, 2022 is 9 personnel drawn from the existing strength of various other fire stations.
Rymbui however said information is not available with him when the Mawphlang MLA asked if the camp, which is covering vast area, will be able to reach in time if any fire incident happen as far as Dangar.
