Shillong, Mar 30: The Bethany’s Centre for Reproductive Medicine was inaugurated on Wednesday by the Secretary of Health & Family Welfare, Rosetta M. Kurbah at the Auditorium of Bethany Hospital, Shillong.
The centre includes the IUI (Intrauterine Insemination), IVF (In-Vitro Fertilisation) and ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) treatment.
Kurbah, who was also the chief guest at the occasion, said that the new reproductive centre in the state will bring infertility treatment to the closure.
The Chief Guest also said that couples can now stop chasing for the care and treatment outside the state with the centre bringing treatment and protection close and at ease. Kurbah further added that the stress of not having a child or getting pregnant naturally among the family is understandable but this centre will bring major changes to a family and it will overcome the big gab of getting a treatment.
The IVF Consultant and Infertility Specialist of Bethany Hospital, Dr. Batiston D. Waanbah, informed that the centre will cater all the needs of the couples. It will not only cater to Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 of IUI, IVF and ICSI but with the comprehensive treatment available, couples will not have to go outside the state or any other centre for blood tests, X-Rays or ultrasounds.Dr. Waanbah gave a rough data of 60 to 80 million couples worldwide suffering from infertility with the rough estimate that 15 million of these are in India, translating to a rough estimate of 25 percent.
The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, Isawanda Laloo, congratulated Bethany Hospital for achieving a milestone and lauded the hospital team for their commendable initiative of providing fertility treatment of quality standards within the reach of each and every individual.
