Following the alleged suicide, the NIT campus has been gripped with tension as students protested on Friday night against the administration, forcing police to resort to lathi-charge the students to bring the situation under control.
Failure to clear backlog papers has been cited as reason for Buker to take the drastic step as he wasn’t allowed to register for the new semester.
The students of NIT Silchar staged massive protest against the administration for introducing new guidelines for students, but mostly targeted towards Dean BK Roy. They also ransacked the official residence of the Dean and vandalised several vehicles. One of the students even hit the Superintendent of Police (SP), Numal Mahatta, with a water bottle.
