No fresh curbs or relaxations, Govt continues with present measures of containment

Must read

Shillong, June 18: Meghalaya government on Friday decided to continue with the existing measures to contain the spread of corona virus in the state. These are the measures that were put in place last week, which effectively has given power to respective Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to decide on the opening of non-essential shops and services, limiting the maximum to 20 per cent.

This also means that East Khasi Hills district is under total lockdown barring the activities allowed whereas DCs decide on measures for other districts.

The new directives were necessitated due to the rising cases this week, especially in rural areas.

Addressing reporters on Friday, Health Minister, A.L. Hek said the containment and restrictions will continue as it is. Assessment of situation and decisions to be taken accordingly has been left to the wisdom of respective Deputy Commissioners.

Government had last week allowed DCs of 10 districts, barring the East Khasi Hills, to open the markets and areas and even transport services after accessing the situation, keeping the maximum percentage of non-essential activities to 20 per cent.

An order by Chief Secretary, M.S. Rao on Friday said the containment measures announced on June 11 will continue to be enforced from June 21 onwards until further orders.
