No major cracks but just expansion joints- Sosthenes Sohtun on inspection of the newly constructed Model Degree College, Patharkhmah.

Nongpoh, June 20: A week after reports of the cracks emerging at the newly constructed Model Degree College at Patharkhmah, on Monday the Jirang Legislative Assembly Legislator Sosthenes Sohtun held the inspection to the site which was also accompanied by the Senior Consultant (Civil Work) of the Rastriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) and found that these cracks are not major but just a portion of the expansion joints.

Reports in the last few days before in the section of newspaper, stated that the newly constructed Model Degree College which is sanctioned by RUSA at the estimated cost of rupees 11 crore approximately, that cracks have been emerged at many parts of the yet to be inaugurated college building that may pose risks to the students in the future.

Following the reports, the MLA Sosthenes Sohtun, accompanied by the MDC Victor Rani, the Senior Consultants official from RUSA including B. Tariang, Senior Consultant Civil Work and R. Mawroh, Principal Consultant visited the site to verify the cracks as reported.

Informing the media after the inspection, B. Tariang the official from RUSA, stated that, these cracks which emerged at the building are not the major cracks but were just the breakage of the plaster at the expansion joints of the building which has three blocks that is the Block A, B and C since the building is large and huge therefore to protect the building from any disaster especially earthquake this building has been constructed in three blocks where these joints has been put into.

He also said that, these cracks of the plaster will be taken into consideration at the earliest to clammed with specially made clamp to protect from any other cracks, adding that, additional fund of rupees 3 crore is yet to be received so, the completion of the whole building is yet to be done especially the road connectivity, water supply and the electricity and the escalator in the building will be completed soon.

Meanwhile, the legislator Sosthenes Sohtun, expressed grief concern over the reports published in the section of newspaper, terming that, the report has been made without proper verification especially from the specialised official.

Sohtun also stressed that, the public must not be misled by such reports but in the other hand must appreciate the MDA state government led by Conrad K Sangma as the Chief Minister who has been kind enough to sanctioned different developments projects in Jirang Assembly Constituency within the span of 4 years especially in uplifting education sector, health and road connectivity.
