North Garo Hills gets its first Navodaya school at Raja Apal, Rs 36 plus crores sanctioned for 1st Phase

Resubelpara, Sept 22: North Garo Hills district has been blessed with its first Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya school with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday announcing the coming up of this mega institute at Raja A’pal village for which a sum of approximately Rs 36 plus Crores in the first phase has already been earmarked in the budget.

The chief minister also opened the temporary site of the JNV, which is an old school, from where children can begin their education life until completion of the permanent site which will be constructed by a central agency like the Central PWD or others.

The JNV institutions are a system of central schools for talented students predominantly from the rural areas of India. They are run by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, New Delhi, which is an autonomous organisation under the Department of School Education and Literacy, ministry of education, Government of India.

During the foundation stone laying ceremony, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma told a gathering of village nokmas, senior citizens, parents and students from North Garo Hills that his MDA government has put adequate thrust to development and improvement of the education scenario in the state.

“For our state to develop, education and literacy of our children needs to be given priority and we have put forward numerous programmes and policies towards this end. Education policy has been launched to give direction and create a roadmap,” said the chief minister.

He also said that infrastructure development has been initiated to overhaul the various schools, its repairs, new buildings and classroom extensions.

“Our government spends Rs 1500 Crores on government aided schools in the state and in the last four and a half years we have embarked on a comprehensive plan to improve education,” said the chief minister as he also lauded the efforts of local MLA Timothy D Shira for his instrumental role in bringing the institute to the region.

The chief minister also announced the sanctioning of Rs 10 Crore for construction and renovation of the Raja A’pal road which will be crucial once the JNV begins functioning from the permanent site.

On the same day he paid a visit to the 100 bedded hospital being constructed at Chidaret and inspected its bridge for sanctioning of funds.
