NPP Campaign in full swing; CM Conrad speaks on various issues

Shillong, Oct 23: The campaign of the National people’s Party (NPP) in Mawryngkneng was on a full swing as the NPP chief and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma Campaigned for their party candidate Pyniaid Sing Syiem for 13-Mawryngkneng by-election at Umpling Ground on October 23.Addressing a large eager crowd, Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma said that he was confident that the people will lay their full faith on NPP. On the other hand, Sangma was accompanied by candidate Pyniaid Sing Syiem, minister of Urban Affairs, Sniawbhalang Dhar, NPP member , John F Kharshiing among others.


CM Speech On Various Agenda

CM in his speech stressed that its leaders and the candidates cannot take things lightly as NPP is keen to win this election.“We know that the people will support us but it is our duty to work till and ensure we win with a maximum margin possible. I am very sure in all the three constituencies we will come out with flying colours,” he said.

Slamming the Congress, CM Conrad, made an indirect attack against the last Congress-led government in the State by citing the implementation of the various programmes as failures.

“In the last three and a half years of this government, there has been a total expenditure of more than 50,000 crore in the state as compared to this government which is just 15,000 crore.”

Conrad Hails PMGSY Scheme

Taking forward NPP’s agenda for the bye-poll, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, further cited example of PMGSY scheme, CM said that the NPP led MDA governement has completed over 1,800 km of rural roads in just three years under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) whereas, the previous government could just construct 700 km in a span of five years.

CM Conrad on border dispute

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma continued his attack on the Congress stating that the party was trying to mislead the people of the state as far as border issue between Assam-Meghalaya is concerned.

‘’ For 50 years the people of Meghalaya have been struggling to resolve this issue and measurements have come and gone, but the previous government were not able to take any concrete steps towards resolving this issue’’ said CM

FOCUS programme for farmers

CM Conrad Sangma, reminded people the Farmer’s Collectivisation for Upscaling Production and Marketing Systems (FOCUS) programme that was launched and was a flagship initiative of the state government to provide market access and financial assistance to farmers collective.

“The FOCUS program the MDA government have started is maybe the first by any state government in the country, and that this the largest welfare program for farmers.’’ CM further said that 200 crore will be sent to give 5000 rupees to each farmers families and that close to about 40,000- 50,000 families have already received the fund.

Conrad on fuel price hike

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that he has taken up the matter with the Union Finance Minister and a solution is being worked out.

Decrying the Congress’ attempt to pin the blame of rising fuel prices on the state government, he said, “Everyone has to understand that the hike is not only in Meghalaya but it is everywhere.”

CM on SSA Teachers Association

On the issue of the SSA teachers, NPP chief clarifies that 90% of the fund for the salaries comes from the Central Government and if until and unless the Central Government cleared the funds the State Government is helpless as the amount for the salaries is huge.

Further CM assured that the State Government will make sure to bring the funds from the centre and that the Addional Chief Secretary of Education is already working in Delhi to working in releasing the funds for the SSA Teacher’s.
