Shillong, Feb 3: Cabinet Minister and the National People’s Party (NPP) candidate from Nongkrem constituency Dasakhiat Lamare and the party candidate from West Shillong Mohendro Rapsang filed their nomination papers on Friday at the office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Office, East Khasi Hills.
Lamare, who switched from Mawhati constituency to contest from Nongkrem, expressed full confidence in winning the upcoming assembly elections from Nongkrem. “People will vote for me without a doubt; people are responding very well and look up to me. I will work day and night like I worked in Mawhati constituency, the same way I will work for Nongkrem constituency if they choose me to be their representative,” said Lamare.
To a query on alleged money power played in Nongkrem, he said it is “totally wrong”.
Lamare added that when a representative helps people of the constituency it is “help”. “Many representatives and candidates help their own people, to say that we are influencing people with money is totally wrong and it is not right,” he said.
“We don’t keep records when we help people, so we do it as per our limit, as per our will and as per the will of the people,” added the NPP candidate.
Lamare further stated that he has always been helping the people throughout the five years of his tenure, be it in his own constituency or from other constituency. “It was highlighted because elections are coming but if (you) see throughout the five years, I have been helping throughout the five years,” he informed.
NPP candidate from West Shillong Mohendro Rapsang expected confidence in winning the upcoming elections. He said the “pro people” program of the government and the leadership of the “dynamic” Chief Minister will also help him win the seat and is confident in NPP winning majority of the seats in the upcoming 2023 Assembly Elections.
Rapsang also stated that this year will be a peaceful election as everything has been taken care into consideration.
“In my constituency, it is the first constituency where CCTV will be connected the sensitive areas directly to the police station,” replied Rapsang on a question of security issues in the West Shillong Constituency.
